WHAT DOES WHAT AND WHY (OR FOR DADS WHO JUST HAVE TO FIDDLE WITH THEM GEARS!!)

Bike choice and setup cand be confusing, memebers at the club are always willing to give advise and guidance, it would be better to seek the experienced advise before committing those valued £££££'s.

So gearing what's it all about, well it's a science to some, gear choice dictates roll out, which is the distance a bike will travel with one full rotation of the cranks, the suggested roll out is around the 54cm to 55cm range, the easier the gear would mean faster acceleration but the rider would have to spin (pedal faster) to maintain a high speed, on the other hand heavier gear would be the opposite, but even then the actual gearing becomes a very personal preferance but the info below will get you pretty much somewhere in the 'ball park'.

Probably some of the best advise if your new to the game is buy secon hand, if the rider does'nt take to the sport you have not loosed much.

Some great advise is here on Charlotte Greens website, courtesy of Dad Andy
